Serenity Garden Continues Tully Hill Tradition

Tully Hill has a history of having a vegetable garden in various forms since opening for treatment and care in October 1990. Continuing that history, in 2020 we worked with our landscaper and this year created a multi-functional garden area, using Chapel Stone to build raised planters and Hanover chiseled concrete pavers to construct a patio area that surrounds the planters. The planter walls afford a stable, comfortable seating area for staff and patients to use, whether individually for one-on-one sessions or to collectively, to gather and enjoy our grounds and beautiful view of the Tully Valley.

This spring we planted the planters with a variety of herbs, vegetables, and fruit: tomatoes, cilantro, dill, asparagus, rhubarb, cucumbers and zucchini, beets, squash, carrots, brussels sprouts, eggplant, and strawberries and raspberries. Because we experienced some very cold nights this past spring after we planted, we did have to protect our new plantings with adequate coverings until mid-May.

Food Services Director and Head Chef Rick Caballero and his kitchen staff have been managing our garden’s yield, and harvesting the fresh, home-grown bounty from our garden for use in preparing meals for our patients and staff. Facilities Director Danny White and his staff have been maintaining the garden beds.

We’re confident that our garden and surrounding area will prove to be a very pleasant area for staff and patients to use and enjoy, and help provide the emotional as well as nutritional nourishment we fully expect it to generate.

We look forward to this new addition to our Tully Hill campus, and the many benefits it’s sure to provide.
