Gratitude is a powerful tool in the journey towards recovery from substance abuse disorder. Writing out a list of things you are grateful for each morning can help you focus on the positive aspects of your life and shift your perspective towards a more optimistic outlook.
If you are new to practicing gratitude here are some prompts to help you get started:

  1. Write down three things you are grateful for in your current living situation. This could be anything from a comfortable bed to a supportive roommate.
  2. List three people in your life who have been instrumental in your recovery journey and why you are grateful for them.
  3. Write down three positive things about yourself that you are grateful for. This could be a talent, a personality trait, or a recent accomplishment.
  4. Think about the progress you have made in your recovery journey so far. Write down three milestones you have achieved and why they make you feel grateful.
  5. Finally, take a moment to reflect on the opportunities that lie ahead. Write down three things you are looking forward to in your recovery journey and why they bring you a sense of gratitude.

Gratitude is not just a one-time exercise.
Practicing gratitude daily can help you maintain a positive mindset and stay focused on your recovery goals.
